2021 09 Trans Georgia trail day 11
The bed was like a metal netting hammock, but who wants to complain. We were dry and warm, while it frequently rained outside. The horses are ground tied with a metal stake and a long rope to the halter. The have not lost any weight yet and are in incredible shape. I trust my horse Gletscho
To climb rocky cliffs at an 60 degree angle and that for an hour at the time. I never head such surefooted horses under neath me. It was foggy and driseling when we mounted our horses and for the first two hours we just rode up a gravel road in thick wet Fogg. At a river we tuned into a small trail and rode up to Arkhotisghele pass. The fogg lighted up a bit and it was warmer than yesterday, but when we reached the summit a icy wind blew I to our faces. The cold wind and thick Fogg made us decide to climb down immediately and without celebrating our summit experience, we walked the horses down the next two hours.
Reaching some good grazing we let the horses have their share, while we ate some sausage and cheese and bread. Just as we stopped the fogg lifted and the sun broke through. It lasted for about 15 min the the sun hid behind clouds again
But in general the fogg stayed above us. We led the horses further down, mounted them again and rode down till the border police stopped us sitting in a amphibious vehicle wanting to see our permit. He got excited when he learned we were on trail for 11 days by now and gave us several thumbs up. About 90 min later we reached the village of Juta, where we stayed at the best guesthouse in town. For the incredible price of 33 USD incl. 2 meals and bed. While I am typing is Lasha talking to the manager and the cooks all sitting at our table swapping stories.
